Polo History

Introduction :

Sabarkantha District has 72560 sq. km. geological area, spread in 13 talukas. The district is adjoining to Rajasthan state having north–east orientation. The total population is 20,83,416 (as per 2001 census) comprising 22% tribal population. Total forest area is 1270.63 sq. km. of which 675.46 sq. km. area is under Sabarkantha. Normal Division, Himatnagar.
The developed Eco- tourism Centre is situated at Vijaynagar Taluka on Harnav River approximate 80 Km. in north direction from District Head Quarter, Himatnagar.  A Dam is constructed on Harnav river at Vanaj. Eco- tourism Development Project is at Polo Camp site, nearby Vanaj. Development of site moreover Polo heritage is in vicinity and all archeological measurement are new under renovation by Archeology Department to attract the tourists in the virgin forest, a rich bio-diversified enriched with wild life and plenty flora & fauna. 


Geological  Formation : 
The area on visiting representing 11th  Century Pollo Jain Temples, Shiv Temple and Surrounded with high altitude hills and shallow vallies the hillock covering scenic natural Haranav river, Passing through the dense forest area arrested by constructing dam at Vanaj for irrigation propose, which automatically reflects that the area is geological  stable and all the hills are well established years together the formation of hard rocky layers and different strata is self reveals the area composition and Rock formation since long back.  The ex Gadadhar Jagiri Polo State, Polo Nagari and its archeological Monuments  also  speaks  that  the  high

rocky mountain medium hillocks, sloppy hills, grassy plateau and different gentle to high gradient hills at top forming cliffs where  vultures made their habitat  in dark deep and cold whether  peak areas.  Seeing the peak of maintained rocky hillocks and with different altitude hills centrally arrested plains, covered with different multistoried  Biological diversified flora includes  big trees, shrubs, herbs, climbers, grasses, middle height trees, Bamboos etc. comprises Nalas, Gullies, Water stream, Perennial & seasonal too, Sandy,. Calcinated, red rocky to hard rocky formed mountains are representative geological unique science adding natural beauty to the area the whole area geologically well established and as far as natural and materialogical  resource, it should be conserved as it is a part of whole eco system of well defined dense forest areas.
